05/16/11 – With That in Mind

Since April of 2011, former Browns/Redskins/Ravens running back, Earnest Byner has written articles for Pro Interviews. He has also been the RB Coach for the Ravens, Redskins, Titans, Jaguars, and now with the Buccaneers. This is the fifth in a series of columns Byner will write for www.prointerviews.org.

Well, well, well. Here we go again! We are always doing something to help win a championship. Well… I think!

Shouldn’t that be the overall intent and purpose for each team in whatever sport? Yeah!

Each action, thought, test, and/or temptation should be considered with winning in mind.

In 1989,  I was training in Cleveland at an off-site location, because I had earned my way out of town for various reasons. But annnny way… While I trained I would think and say, “I am a champion.” Champion Champion. At times I would raise my hands up in the air as if I had scored a touchdown. Chanting Champion, Champion, Champion.

Man, IT was invigorating!

Years later that image and thought became a reality. I believe those words planted an image in my mind and gave me the courage to move into the unknown upon being traded and ultimately was the foundation from whence I became a Super Bowl Champion. I became what I thought of most.

My baby sister texted a song to me to listen to call, “Speak” by Myron Butler that talks about speaking into the atmosphere regarding what you desire. What a powerful notion that we can think and speak what we desire and it will be.

I believe it is advantageous for a player to clearly see what he/she desires when he/she is training for the upcoming season. Most of the time, we don’t consider where we are going when we go to work.

Everyone has some type of motivation for doing what they do. Is it the fame or money?

Whatever the motivation, I feel it should be considered prior to, during, and after the workout. Purpose is what I am talking about. Be intent on becoming what you desire or crave.
